Wet conditions are delaying the opening of at least one attraction, but the majority of the community’s favourite seasonal activities will be open for business for the Victoria day holiday weekend.
Lakeside Park Carousel Opening Delayed
The opening of the historic Lakeside Park Carousel has been delayed due to the flooding of Lake Ontario into Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie. City staff will continue to monitor water levels at the park and hope to open the carousel as soon as possible.
Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm
Goats, llamas, horses and other lovable farm animals are ready to enjoy their summer home at Happy Rolph’s Animal Farm. The farm, located at 650 Read Rd., is open from dusk to dawn and features a large playground, picnic area and a view of Lake Ontario from the 9/11 Memorial Walkway. The City’s splash pads at Bogart Street Park, Catherine Street Park, Lester B. Pearson Park and West Park will open for the season Friday, May 17, weather permitting. Splash pads are open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Learn more at www.stcatharines.ca/SplashPads.
St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre
The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. all weekend, including Monday, May 21. Explore the museum galleries and exhibits, and view some historic gems currently on display, including the Victory Flag awarded to the City in 1918 in honour of the community’s efforts to raise victory bonds in support of the First World War. The Victory Flag is part of the museum’s launch its annual Open Late program. The museum is open until 8 p.m. on Tuesdays from May 21 to October 8. The program launches with Wavin’ Flag. Help build a flag quilt and build your own Victory Flag.
The Morningstar Mill heritage site at Decew Falls opens for the season on Saturday, May 18. You can tour the grist mill and the miller’s house on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn more at www.stcatharines.ca/MorningstarMill.
St. Catharines Farmers’ Market

Garden City Golf Course
Go for the green at the Garden City Golf Club all weekend, including Victoria Day Monday, May 20. The City-run golf course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk, weather permitting. Learn more at www.stcatharines.ca/Golf.
Parks and trails
Regular maintenance at City parks and trails began earlier this month and will continue until Thanksgiving weekend. Explore and enjoy City parks and trails from dawn until dusk. While using trails, residents should be aware of their surroundings at all times, stick to established paths, remain alert and watch their footing.
The Film House at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre
Looking to enjoy some indoor activities? The Film House will have screenings on the weekend, but will be closed on Victoria Day, Monday, May 20. Weekend screenings include The Beach Bum, This Magnificent Cake and Amazing Grace, the Aretha Franklin concert film / documentary. General admission is $9.50. Film house members pay $7.
