St. Catharines talent taking to the stage at Arts Awards

Homegrown talent is set to shine in the spotlight at the St. Catharines Arts Awards ceremony.

The 2019 St. Catharines Arts Awards, presented by event sponsor Meridian Credit Union, is set to take place Friday, May 3 at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre. Twenty-two artists and arts professionals are up for awards in four categories: Emerging Artist, Established Artist, Arts in Education and Making a Difference. There will also be a special presentation of the Patron of the Arts Award. The show begins at 7 p.m.

“The Arts Awards shines a spotlight on the breadth and diversity of our homegrown talent,” said Kathleen Powell, acting supervisor Cultural Services. “This show is not to be missed.”

This year’s ceremony will be hosted by Patricia Vanstone, artistic director of the Norm Foster Theatre Festival (recipient of the Established Artist Award in 2018). Incidental music during the Arts Awards ceremony will be provided by Jessica Wilson (2018 Emerging Artist Award recipient).

This year’s awards ceremony will feature performances by:

  • PK Hummingbird Steel Orchestra – Patrick Nunes and Kay Charles (Arts in Education Nominee)
  • The Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir (Amanda Nelli, director, Arts in Education Nominee)
  • The Willow Arts Community presents Songs from the Willow with Queenz, Tobrox “Bea” Soltes and Ayaz Anis, accompanied by Mark Roe and Paul Koshty (Willow Arts Community, Making A Difference Award Nominee)
  • Ola Kiermacz (Emerging Artist Nominee)
  • Juliet Dunn (Making a Difference Nominee)
