Budding student entrepreneurs can apply now for Summer Company

From city hall:

April 11, 2019 – The St. Catharines Enterprise Centre is now accepting applications for the 2019 Summer Company program.

Made possible by the Province of Ontario, Summer Company is designed to help students, ages of 15 to 29, start their own businesses. Successful applicants will receive a $3,000 grant (up to half up front to cover start-up costs and half after successfully complete the program); 12 hours of mentorship and 12 hours of business training.

“Over the course of the summer, students will learn what it takes to manage a business, from sales and marketing to bookkeeping to managing relationships with customers to networking,” said Rob Belchior, the City’s small business consultant at the Enterprise Centre. “Students get so much more out of it than just grant money: the skills and experience they develop will serve them well in future opportunities.”

Summer Company has been providing opportunities for students for nearly 20 years. Last year the program provided $30,000 to local applicants which resulted in student-led businesses achieving more than $85,000 in sales.

“The Summer Company program is an amazing opportunity for students to learn business skills that can be used to start a lifetime of success,” said Darryl Andree, Summer Company Mentor. “It provides knowledge and expertise to students who want to start and run a summer company.”

Summer Company runs from the end of May to the beginning of September.
