Downtown drug issues in St. Catharines

I’ve had a number of conversations recently with downtown residents and business people about the drug issues they see on a day-to-day basis. Specifically, a number of people have stated that there are known drug houses in the downtown, and they’re concerned that nothing is being done, specifically by the NRP.

In my discussions with NRP staff, they’ve stated that while we can’t always see outward signs of action, the NRP is always working in a variety of different ways on the issues in our downtown. As an example of recent action, the Police Services Board approved funding for a downtown foot patrol that should help to alleviate some of the concerns that have been put forward.

Additionally, however, in my discussions with NRP staff it was indicated that residents who observe illegal activity should “provide specific observations made, drugs being trafficked, times, persons involved or anything else that may be relevant as this may be required for court purposes.

If individuals are uncomfortable about reporting this information directly, please feel free to forward it to me and I will ensure it is received by the appropriate police resources.
