NRP Budget being brought back from the brink

I can sympathize with the NRP Board and the issues outlined in their article; when I became Budget Chair in St. Catharines in 2015, we had very little in the way of reserves at all – although we did run surpluses year-to-year to help mitigate the lack of back-up dollars, which definitely helped and is not the case with the NRP.

I am hopeful that the NRP can move forward constructively to ensure that our policing services are on more stable footing going forward. And in a follow-up to the article regarding our homeless population and the shelters in the City, the NRP *does* have money in the budget for two officers on foot patrol in our downtown, something that has been noticeably lacking in recent years and is a part of our multi-pronged approach to make the downtown a better place to be.
