And I’m not the only one.
This has been ongoing for a while, and the Region and lower-tier municipalities need to do something about it. We need a permanent shelter. We need it staffed and funded properly. It needs to integrate affordable housing services, mental health outreach, addictions counselling. It needs funding and support from all levels and areas in the Region. And it needs to happen soon.
As for those in the comments on the Standard page who say that we *actually* need affordable housing … no. We need both. But a shelter can come on line in relatively short order. The 5500 needed affordable housing spaces will take much longer to build. So why not do both?
