Labour Day weekend – what’s open, what’s not?

Aug. 27, 2018 – This Labour Day holiday – Monday, Sept. 3 – some City facilities will be closed for the holiday, some will be open and some will shift from summer hours to fall hours.

What’s open

The following City facilities will be open:


Outdoor Pools and splash pads

Lion Dunc Schooley Pool is open. Visit http://www.stcatharines.ca/pools for schedules and admission fees and requirements.

The Lion Dunc Schooley Pool closes for the season on Sept. 3 at dusk.

City splash pads at Bogart Street Park, Catherine Street Park, Pearson Park and West Park are open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. until the end of September.


St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre

Enjoy exploring the museum galleries and watching ships travel through Lock 3 of the Welland Canal from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is by donation. Learn more about the museum at http://www.stcatharinesmuseum.com.


Garden City Golf Course

Go for the green at the Garden City Golf Course. The City-run golf course will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk, weather permitting. Visit http://www.stcatharines.ca/Golf for more information and to book your tee time.


Lakeside Park Carousel

The Lakeside Park Carousel will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.. Visit http://www.stcatharines.ca/Carousel for more information. Starting Sept. 4, the carousel will be open on weekends only until Monday, Oct. 8.


Morningstar Mill

Tour the picturesque Morningstar Mill heritage site at Decew Falls from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. all weekend. Visit http://www.stcatharines.ca/MorningstarMill for more information.


What’s Closed

*Carlisle Street/Garden Park Parking Garage

The Carlisle Street/Garden Park Parking Garage will close temporarily for regular maintenance from 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31 to 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4. Parking is available at the Ontario Street Parking Garage and other City-owned parking lots and on-street spots.

The following City of St. Catharines facilities will be closed on Labour Day:

*City Hall

*Enterprise Centre

*FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre

*Parks, Recreation and Culture Services administration offices

*Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre, Bill Burgoyne Arena and Garden City Arena Complex

*Meridian Centre

*Russell Avenue and Port Weller community centres

*Dunlop Drive, Port Dalhousie and West St. Catharines older adult centres

*Victoria Lawn Cemetery offices (visitation is always available from dawn to dusk)


To report fallen trees, road and sidewalk maintenance issues, blocked catch basins or sewer back-ups, call the City at 905.688.5600. To report power outages, call Alectra Utilities at 905.684.8111. St. Catharines Transit will be operating on a holiday schedule. Transit will return to its regular schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 4.


Back to School

Expect to see more youngsters on the street around the same time you may be heading to and from work starting Tuesday, Sept. 4. The City reminds residents to be aware – children don’t always look for traffic before crossing – and respect directions from crossing guards. Recent changes to Ontario law requires motorists to wait until pedestrians and crossing guards have cleared the crosswalk before proceeding.
